A box that is often too simple

A Lunch Box is a box made to keep your food. It is used it to prepare some meals in advance. It is an effective method of storing food. The Lunch Box is often made of plastic with a single compartment. More expensive and heavier models are made in stainless steel. Most lunch boxes do not have tiers and can only be used to carry a main dish.

History of this classic container

The first famous Lunch Box appeared in the United States in 1935. It was used to feed children when they were at school. Today, this use still exists and that's why the Lunch Box is so popular in the United States. In addition, it has been popularized in the workplace and it is used by a large part of the population.

Why do Americans buy Lunch Boxes?

Americans use Lunch Boxes to go to work or school with their own meals. The goal is not to waste time. They want to prepare the meal in advance. Despite the practical aspect of this box, it is difficult to prepare a varied and healthy meal in a classic lunch box. That's why there are more and more multi-compartment Lunch Boxes inspired by Japanese Bento Boxes.

The Japanese lunch box

The Japanese lunch box, also known as the Bento Box, is a plastic, steel or wooden box used to preserve meals. It can be used to prepare balanced meals thanks to their separate compartments. It is often used to cook sushi or rice dishes. Bento is a real cooking art and it is the source of inspiration for the use of bento boxes by the public at large.

The history of Bento Boxes

Bento Boxes were created almost 1000 years ago, during the Kamakura period in Japan. Created to cook Bentos, they have been democratized throughout Japan to cook all types of balanced dishes. The idea is simple, it is necessary to create a dietetic and delicious dish, where the many ingredients find their place. The Bento Box is used to separate the different ingredients into different dishes, in a small space.

An internationally recognized art

For years now, Japanese food has been doing wonders all over the world. With this massive export, everyone has been able to discover the art of bento and more and more Americans have started to cook balanced meals for their children. Pros and Cons : Lunch Box vs Bento Box

We will base our comparison of these two food transport boxes on this points:

  • Easy to use
  • Food conservation
  • Variety of choices
  • Health

Both are easy to use, there should be no problem on this point. However, we notice that the Bento Box is more useful for making a complete meal to take everywhere. In order to preserve food, both systems are equivalent because they are closed with hermetic joints in 90% of the cases. Regarding the variety of choices, it is more comfortable to use the Bento Box because it is possible to mix many meals and a lot of different foods in the same box. Finally, if you think about your children's health or your weight, we advise you to vary your meals and your vitamin with a Bento Box. It will be easier to fill it with good food than a Lunch Box.

Everyone has his own tastes: for us, the Japanese box wins.
